Destinations

Biarritz (pop. 30,000) is one of the principal resorts on the Côte Basque. Originally a quiet village, it was given sudden prominence in the 19th Century by the wife of Napoleon III, Empress Eugénie, who constructed a palace on the beach – it still exists today as a luxury hotel. The town began hosting the parades and entourages accompanying European royalty and nobility, invited by Eugénie to stay at the palace. Today, Biarritz is a dynamic town with spectacular beaches, interesting architecture, quaint cafés and the home of one of Europe’s best surfing sites. Surfers come from all over the world to ride its waves in the scenic bay of Biarritz.

Paris (pop. 12,067,000) is the capital of France and the country’s largest city. It is situated on the River Seine, in northern France, at the heart of the Île-de-France region. Paris is one of the most popular tourist destinations in the world, with over 45 million visitors per year. There are numerous iconic landmarks among its many attractions, along with world-famous institutions and popular parks. Paris’ museums and monuments are among its highest-esteemed attractions; tourism has motivated both the city and national government to create new ones. The city’s most prized museum, the Louvre, welcomes over 8 million visitors a year, being by far the world’s most visited art museum.
